The Food Hangover

Okay, we admit it. We’re not purists. Every once in a while we regress. We get caught up in “comfort memories,” and indulge.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. And this time I was the one who led us astray. Just short of a good arm twisting, okay maybe not.

I didn’t bring it home. Our rule is, “Keep the junk food out of the house.” This time she did it. She caught me off guard.

What sealed the deal? When she said it was “organic...” Smiling, with a sheepish grin on her face, she said, “Look what I got us, chocolate, chocolate chip ice cream!” Mmm. Hot weather and ice cream, doesn’t get much better than that.

She served me up a big bowl, reminding me of all the sugar in it (yea, like that would stop me from a second helping). I got the warm and fuzzies. Life was so good.

It tasted like more. I walked toward the kitchen. Her words of warning fell on deaf ears, “Don’t do it, you know what will happen.” I just wanted the lion’s share, and the sugar had given me temporary memory loss.

I had forgotten about the hangover.

2 am came and my head was pounding. I thought I had sinus issues. Then it all came back to me, the sugar. I was tired, hurting, and my brain was in a fog. I was ruined with a food hangover. What a waste of a day, all for a Kilr Kraving.

After a bit of grumbling, I asked Reni if she felt guilty. She quickly replied with a firm “No.” “It’s all about moderation,” she said. (That sweet fish/Piscean, can be a tough shark at times.)

Food: The good, the bad, the ugly. Sometimes, really ugly.

Here's a story you may interesting, "Health Benefits of Sugar."
