Is Organic Junk Food Healthy?
Maybe, maybe not. Just about everyone has heard that organic is better. Some think it’s just a bunch of over-priced bull... But you’ve got to wonder…
Why is it more expensive? How come it isn’t advertised on television? Wait a minute, Lay’s potato chips now sells organic chips and there’s Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, and is it true, Oreo cookies made with organic flour and sugar?!
It’s mind-boggling. I thought junk food was just junk food. Could this junk food be good for me?
Nope, not even close to healthy. It’s an ingenious plan by the industrial food industry to make you think that you can eat crap and it’s actually good for you. Processed food is processed food. They’re jumping on the organic bandwagon to reap the profits and get a piece of the pie for their shareholders.
I admit I like my share of processed food. My favorites are Garden of Eatin’ Tortilla Chips, USDA organic of course, with slices of fresh garlic, avocado, tomato and my favorite corn and bean salsa.
Scrumptious popcorn with Bragg’s Nutritional Yeast (tastes like cheese, but super healthy) and Lara power bars are generally waiting in the pantry.
We’re pretty much old school around here and eat basic stuff. Lots of different vegetables and fruit. One or two days a week I cook our favorites. When we get too busy to cook we get take out at Chipotle’s. Their food is made with local produce (when in season), has no chemicals, no gmo’s, and no added crap.
Come to think of it, I’ve never seen an unhealthy person eating there. Hmm.
