Sugar Season is Here!

It’s the holiday season and sugary treats are everywhere. You just can’t get away from all the goodies. Why would you? Sugar lights up the brain and sends feel good chemicals coursing through our veins. And when the high wears off we’re on the hunt for more.

 

What’s the big deal about sugar? Why are the “experts” saying to stay away from it? What harm could a little sugar do? After all, we’ve been eating it for years and it didn’t hurt us back then.

 

Moderation Only

Sounds good in theory. Impossible in reality. If you’re eating sugar everyday it’s way too much. And if your snack or treat came from a box, can or package, moderation just went out the window. See all those strange words on the ingredient list? Many are sugar in disguise. Not just any sugar, it gets worse.

 

I’m not here to talk you out of your favorite junk food snack addiction, I’m just saying sugar isn’t what it used to be. What used to come in white, brown and powdered has over 60 names now. Really, 60 names?! Those “food technologists” have gotten mighty crafty (and well-funded) over the years. There’s no moderation when it comes to sugar. So what are your chances of quitting?  Highly unlikely, especially considering the holidays are the sugar season.

 

How Bad Could It Be?

Worse than you know. If you happen to be one of the many millions suffering from diabetes, you know that sugar got you where you are today. And your sugar probably came from your favorite “low-fat” snack food or in your chips, spaghetti sauce, bread, yogurt, etc. 77% of the 600,000 items in the American food supply are spiked with added sugars.

 

Why It’s Virtually Impossible to Quit

Watch television? You haven’t got a snowball’s chance in hell of thinking for yourself. Television advertising has ingeniously seduced you with clever brainwashing schemes. You've fallen for their lies, hook, line and sinker… Like cattle to the trough you walk the aisles, filling your cart with flashy boxes and happy words that make food sound like rainbows and leprechauns. Addictive goodness in a shiny box! 

 

Not real festive, is it? Oh well, enjoy the holidays, they only come once a year!
