Selling Out to Big Food

Selling Out to Big Food, profits over people

What happens when a processed food giant cashes in on the organic bandwagon and the little guy sells out to Big Food? Plenty. And for the consumer, it’s generally not good.

Garden of Life, once heralded as the #1 brand in the natural products industry, has been bought by Nestle, the world’s largest packaged food company.

My once favorite snack food company, Garden of Eatin’, made the best corn chips (similar to the old Fritos recipe). Chips that brought me back to my childhood days of cane pole fishing and bean dip. That is until they were bought out by the Hain Celestial Group. (So long Celestial Seasonings Tea.)

Today, they taste just like any other “rancid,” hexane-processed junk food. They removed the expeller-pressed oil (Hint: If your favorite snack doesn’t list the oil as expeller-pressed and/or it's canola, you know it’s toxic as hell. It should also include sea salt.) As of this writing, their corn (not tortilla) chips are nowhere to be found. Hmmm, phased out due to low sales?

Why should you care? Nestle is well known for violating human rights all around the world. Their unethical and immoral behavior is far reaching and affects human and environmental health on many levels.

For years they’ve been stealing water from rural villages and communities in America, Canada and virtually everywhere in the world- with its deep pockets and lobbyists- and selling it back to you at exorbitant prices.

Still buying bottled water? Get a Zen Water Purifier. Transforms tap water into healthy mineral drinking water. And saves you A LOT of $$$, hassle and greatly reduces environmental waste. (Zen purifier does not filter out fluoride.) Check your tap water ingredients here.

Ditch the toxic throw away bottles for a refillable/reusable one.

Instead of buying up ethical organic companies perhaps Nestle and other Big Food giants should concentrate on cleaning up their own toxic products.

Eden’s Corner has endorsed Garden of Life health products for some time. In our experience, we've found that a product's quality slowly degrades over time when Big Food/Mega Corps take over. We will however, gradually phase them out as comparable supplements become available.

It is wise to buycott companies that have no social or environmental responsibility. Profits should never transcend human health or the health of our planet.

Choose responsibly. For you, the earth, and future generations.

Vote with your dollar, it is your greatest voice for change.
